ARD Ideas For Governments

 

  • Issue a proclamation declaring November 15 as America Recycles Day in your city or county and encourage residents and employees to recycle and reuse.

  • Start or announce a new or expanded recycling collection program on November 15.

  • Place a box at government facilities to collect clothing or used eyeglasses. 

  • Conduct a waste audit of all government offices. Check out www.kab.org for Waste in the Workplace.

  • Print an America Recycles Day utility bill stuffer and enclose it with customer billings or print a message on the utility bill.

  • Add the America Recycles Day logo on garbage and recycling collection trucks.

  • Hold a "can smash" for employees and kids at a mall or school parking lot.

  • Waive entry fees at parks in exchange for recyclables during the week of America Recycles Day.

  • Conduct a household hazardous waste collection.

  • Announce a Christmas tree recycling program for late December and/or early January.

  • Sponsor a backyard composting seminar.

  • Promote the mulching and composting of fall leaves.

  • Run a series of recycling videos on your cable access station.

  • Have a paperless office day. Encourage staff to use e-mail and edit documents on-line.
